Our man at the Maybank Malaysian Open takes an irreverant look at life inside and outside the ropes at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club.

KLGCC is okay by me...

The European Tour’s finest have been queuing up to heap praise on the newly renovated Kuala Lumpur Golf and country Club this week. The good people at the KLGCC have spent a fair amount of Malaysian Ringgets on redeveloping the East and West Courses here, as well as building a hugely impressive clubhouse facility. Here’s what the stars of the show had to say....

DARREN CLARKE: “The golf course here is brilliant. You can see that they have spent an awful lot of money but you can see that in the course – it is sensational. If we played golf courses in this sort of condition every week then we would be very happy, it is brilliant.”

THONGCHAI JAIDEE: “The West Course here at the KLGCC is the best course in Malaysia. I like this course a lot. They put more bunkers and are in play on almost every hole. This year it will be very challenging. This year is the best year so far because of good organization, good facilities and fantastic golf course.”

SOREN HANSEN: “Over the last ten years or so we have seen huge moves made in Asia to improve the courses and facilities and make them really world class and it is all credit to the people here at the KLGCC because they have clearly invested a lot of money here and they deserve all the praise they are getting this week. I hope this is a venue that stays on Tour for many years to come because this is as good a course as you will find anywhere in Asia. We just have to hope that the sponsors stay with us here and that the Members here are happy to have us because it is a fantastic course.”
