PWGD were engaged to plan and design a comprehensive practice facility at Epsom College in Malaysia (ECiM) including a driving range, putting and chipping greens with short game areas. They now have the best school based dedicated golf teaching facility in the country.
Site constraints at ECiM, including elevation changes and limited available land, meant that some earthworks were involved to maximise the space provided to include as much playing variety as possible.
With short game a major focus, grass tees, a shallow fairway bunker and a “wedge control target system” are features of the range itself.

PWGD worked closely with Travis Van Dijk, the Head Coach and General Manager of the ECM Golf Academy to create as many scenarios as possible that could be found on the golf course ranging up to around 60m in length.
A large putting green with different levels and gradients provides students with a variety of putting challenges. The chipping green has a variety of slopes that when combined with the many slopes, lies, mowing heights and the two greenside bunkers provide a vast amount of recovery shots to practice.
With many international students, ease of maintenance to a high standard was extremely important for the school’s golf academy business model to be sustainable. PWGD’s comprehensive golf course construction specifications were implemented to ensure excellent drainage and high quality turf condition year round. Artificial greens were installed so a low maintenance yet consistently true and fast putting surface could be provided for all students throughout the year.
